Dan Shepherd, DVM
Dr. Shepherd opened Fox River Animal Hospital in July 2001, he had previously been a veterinarian in a small animal practice in Moline, Illinois for 7 years. Dr. Shepherd is a 1991 graduate of the Iowa State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Shepherd has a particular interest in senior wellness and preventive medicine. To keep on top of current therapies and topics in Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Shepherd attends conferences, and seminars frequently.When not at the practice, Dr. Shepherd enjoys spending time with his three children and enjoying the outdoors! Dr. Shepherd has three kitties, Sirius Black was born to a stray while she was staying at FRAH awaiting adoption, he found Nimbus in the middle of the road while he was on a bike ride and Larry was found along hwy 55 on death’s door. They are very lucky kitties! Dr. Shepherd is an avid runner and has more recently taken an interest in cycling. Say hi if you see him out and about!
Dr. Shepherd is a member of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the Northeast Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Information Network.
Amy Short-Jones, CVT
Certified Veterinary Technician and Practice Manager
Amy has been with FRAH since it’s opening in July 2001. She is a native of central Illinois and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Augustana College. Amy received her state and national certification as a veterinary technician in 2004. In her spare time Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, Bryan and their four young children, Ava, Matthew, Joey and Evan, enjoying the outdoors and starting craft projects that never seem to get completed. In addition to her four two-legged children, Amy also shares her home with a spirited orange kitty girl named Jyn, a pekingese mix named Millie, 2 birds and a turtle (Amy has had her turtle since 1992!)
Amy is a member of the Wisconsin Veterinary Technician Association, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America and the Wisconsin Veterinary Practice Managers Association.
Sarah Ashauer, CVT
Certified Veterinary Technician
Sarah has been a CVT at Fox River Animal Hospital since 2013 when she completed her externship with us and became certified as a veterinary technician. She attended Globe University to earn her degree in Veterinary Technology.
When not caring for the pets at FRAH, Sarah enjoys golf, reading and cooking up something delicious in the kitchen! She also likes to spend time with her pooch, Kali, a chocolate Labrador.

Crystal was the first employee we ever hired at FRAH back in 2001. She worked with us for over 4 years before moving out of the area. We are excited to have her back as a Veterinary Assistant as of October 2015.
Crystal and her husband, Joe have two children, Claire and Sam who are both involved in hockey. When not watching the kids on the ice, Crystal likes to get outdoors and enjoy the warm weather activities Wisconsin has to offer. The Gerarden’s share their home with two senior dogs, Sully and Linus as well as their three kitties, a senior named Marlee and two spirited, young kitties named Silly and Willy. They round out their farm with a guinea pig named Gretzky!

Morning Kennel Attendant
Jeanna joined the FRAH team in the summer of 2015 to oversee our morning kennels. She takes care of all the animals who have stayed with us overnight for boarding or medical reasons. Having survived Rabies as a teenager, Jeanna is involved in Rabies education and prevention awareness.
Jeanna and her husband Scot keep very busy with their 5 Siberian Huskies, Mayah (pictured with Jeanna) Asher, Shai, Echo and Roma. They enjoy dog sledding in the winter when they have free time and spending time with their twins, Connor and Carly.
Kathy joined the FRAH team in February 2016 and has quickly become an integral part of our team. Kathy oversees the appointment schedule and client communication programs as well as greeting pets and their owners when they visit our practice.
Kathy moved to the Fox Valley from Chicago for a new adventure when her husband accepted a position here. We’re working on creating a Packer fan out of her but we realize the chances aren’t good;)
In her spare time, Kathy enjoys spending time with her husband and her two step-daughters. Kathy’s furry family members include kitties Misty and Malki (pictured here,) their beagle mix Clara and Tulip, a hedgehog (not exactly furry but cute too!)
